Vern L. Greyn

July 15, 1960 ~ October 11, 2021 (age 61)

Obituary

Vern Greyn, 61, passed Monday, October 11, 2021. Vern was born July 15th 1960 in Choteau. He was the fifth child born to Hugh and Ann (Bouma) Greyn. As a child he was raised on a farm west of Choteau with four brothers and three sisters. He spoke fondly of memories involving adventures and shenanigans around the farm. They usually involved siblings and cousins. As a teenager he helped on the family farm raising pigs, beef cows and haying.

As a young man his parents began the fertilizer business that would shape the course of his life. They started small by selling semi-loads delivered directly to local farms. Soon they had a Fordson tractor and a blender and could make blends out of their Quonset.

In 1980 he took a trip to British Columbia to help his brother-in-law and sister work on their chicken farm. It was to be a turning point because there he met the woman who became the love of his life Jenny Roos. They were married August 4th 1982 and moved to Dutton two years later. They established their home while building the second plant for Greyn Fertilizer. Over the next 7 years they had five children together. Even through the hardships of losing his father at age 25, the loss of his home to a house fire in 1990 and various other trials, Vern's ability to believe in the improbable helped carry him and his family through it. He served on multiple boards in the community and made friends of his customers his community and family were a huge part of his life.

Vern loved to travel, especially with family. He took trucking trips, and many family vacations. He had gone to the Netherlands, Italy, and England where he met family and strangers, and everyone became his friend. He was very spontaneous and would announce his intentions to leave for two weeks with a few hours’ notice.

Vern's faith directed everything that he did in his life. He raised his children with a knowledge of the Bible and a fear of the Lord. His faith overflowed on many around him in an unbounded generosity. He was always looking for ways to help and bless anyone who needed it. He will be hugely missed by his family, community, employees, and customers.

Survivors include wife, Jenny Greyn; children, Joanna (Mike) Miller, Melissa (Joe) Castaneda, Brad (Leigh) Greyn, Kyle Greyn, and Sharlene Greyn; siblings, Gilbert (Dianne) Greyn, Nina Staple, Linda (Andy) Stam, Larry (Sharon) Greyn, Kathy (Kevin) Gebeke, Hugh Greyn, and Steve (Lorinda) Greyn; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Greyn; mother, Ann Greyn-McDonald; nephew, Eric Greyn; nephew, Cole Greyn; and father-in-law, Marinus Roos.
