Thomas John Flynn passed away April 9, 2023. Tom was born December 15, 1955 in Shelby to Doris and John Henry (Dayle) Flynn. He grew up in Shelby and graduated from Shelby High School in 1975. After graduation Tom took a job with an oil company to work overseas. His career took him to many different places: Taiwan, Australia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and the Philippines to name a few. He met his wife, Melit Flynn, in the Philippines. In 1983 their daughter, Claridale, was born. In 1987, Thomas Robert Jr. was born. The family moved back to Shelby in 1988. In 1990 Tom purchased the Oasis Bar which he operated until his death. Over the years, Tom would return to the oilfields, working mainly in Alaska and Wyoming.
Tom enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He participated in many clubs and organizations throughout the years. Tom especially enjoyed activities involving teaching kids how to fish. One of his favorite past times was pranking kids he had known over the years.
Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Doris (James) Allmaras; father, Dale Flynn; and sister, Cindy Boudreaux. He is survived by his children, Claridale and Tom; their mother, Melit; sisters, Sandra Blosser, Jane (Rich) Wolf, Jean (Ryan) Hannon, and Jackie (Chuck) Rohlf; nieces, Jennifer (Randy) Harwood, Danelle Head, Megan Hannon, Ashley Howell, Kristina Colgin, Amber Lawson, and Lakota (John) Kinyon; nephews, Doug Boudreaux, Jess Hannon, Charlie and Cody Rohlf; and many great nieces and nephews.
Visitation before cremation will be Friday, April 14, from 5-7pm.
Memorial service will be Saturday, April 15, at 2pm. All services will be held at Whitted Funeral Chapel Shelby.
