Roger Edward Biniek. 76, passed on January 1. 2022 from complications of Parkinson’s disease. Even though he was taken from this world too soon, his sense of humor and love of fishing, especially fishing stories, will provide all who knew him wonderful memories.
Roger was born in Missoula to Edward J. and Blanche R. Biniek. He graduated from the University of Montana with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Welfare. Following his return from Vietnam, he earned his master’s degree in Education majoring in Guidance and Counseling. After working as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, he returned to the University of Montana and earned his school psychology credentials.
Roger served in the U.S. Army. He had one tour of duty in Vietnam. His job was running convoys. When he was honorably discharged, he had earned the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
Roger worked as a School Psychologist for 31 years. As an employee of the Big Sky Special Needs Cooperative, he worked in schools in Shelby, Cut Bank, Sunburst, Galata, Valier, and Heart Butte. It was during his first year as a school psychologist he met the love of his life, Nancy Young. They were married for 43 years. Together they had 2 children: Russell and Sarah. He was a devoted parent and attended the activities his children participated in.
Roger had passions for gardening, especially growing his 14 Early Girl tomato plants, fishing for walleye, tying his own flies and hunting. Following his retirement, he took up watercolor and oil painting. He was a regular in Bill Hannah’s adult education art class for many years. He had a constant companion in RC, Russell’s golden retriever.
Roger is survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Russell; daughter, Sarah; sister, Elaine Custer; brother-in-law, Jim Young; nieces, Cathy (Alan) Powell and Anastasia Young; nephews, Brian Custer and Scott Young; great niece, Ashley (Cater) McGrath; and great nephew, Tyler Powell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Harvest Food Pantry.
Memorial mass will be Friday, January 7, at 10am at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Burial to follow in Crown Hill Cemetery. A reception at church to follow burial.
