Michel "Mickey" (Hall) Wolf

December 20, 1937 — January 9, 2021

Shelby

After a hard-fought and courageous battle with cancer, Michel “Mickey” Bernice Wolf, 83, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 9 surrounded by family at her home in Shelby.

Mickey was born Dec. 20, 1937, in Minot, N. D., the daughter of the late Howard and Mildred Hall, the second of three siblings. She was raised on the Hi-Line at the family farm outside of Joplin and graduated in 1956 from Joplin/Inverness High School as Salutatorian of her class.

She married Edwin Pierson of Shelby in 1959. He passed away suddenly on July 11, 1966, and on Nov. 12, 1966, she and Kenneth M. Wolf were married and have made their home in Shelby ever since.

Mickey held many jobs in Shelby, including secretary to Toole County Attorney Rae Kalbfleisch, secretary at KSEN Radio, but her favorite job was elementary school secretary, which she held for many years enjoying the teachers and the kids who referred to her as the “Bubble Gum Lady.” She retired as Payroll Clerk for the Shelby School District in 2001.

Despite being busy as a homemaker and working, Mickey always found time to help out with community projects, many of which were undertaken by the Shelby Jayceens and other organizations of which she was a member. She was also a lifetime member of the Shelby Chapter of the Eastern Star.

She loved spending time with her family and friends. She had many friends in both Shelby and in Essex where she and Ken spent their summers. For several years they would spend their winters in Jamul, Calif., where their youngest daughter, Kristi, lives and they developed many lasting friendships there.

Mickey loved all animals, big and small, especially dogs and she always kept treats in her pocket for any dog that happened to be lucky enough to encounter her. She always had a cat in the household, which she spoiled rotten, and it brought her great joy feeding many generations of squirrels, chipmunks and birds at their Essex cabin.

She enjoyed playing cards, especially Pitch, with family and friends. She collected antiques and had a very large collection of demitasse teacups and saucers, which she donated to charity.

With her kind and gentle demeanor, Mickey touched the hearts of everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed, but family and friends will find comfort in the beautiful memories she left behind.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth of Shelby; son Cory (Bette) Pierson of Havre; daughter Jody (Jerry) Toner of Havre; son Jay (Leslie) Pierson of Havre; Kristi Wolf (Dave) of Jamul, Calif.; stepson Kenny Wolf of Laredo, Texas; brother Ben (Patricia) Hall of Chinook; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward, and parents, Howard and Mildred Hall.

Per her request, there will be no services. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held in the summer at the cabin in Essex.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Tri-County Shrine Club for the Shrine Hospital in Spokane.
