Harry A. Heimbigner

December 20, 1935 — December 23, 2021

Chester

On December 23rd, with sadness, we announce the passing of Harry Heimbigner Jr., our loving husband, dad, grandfather, and great grandfather.  He left us peacefully at the age of 86 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Harry was born on the farm in Plummer, Idaho, on December 20th, 1935, to Harry Sr. and Dora.  They moved to Chester a few years later.  He attended Chester Public Schools, graduating in 1955.  During school he was very proud of playing basketball for the Coyotes and playing the clarinet for the high school band.  He even had the opportunity to march in the Rose Parade in Portland, Oregon!

After high school Harry attended auto body school in Fargo, N.D.  It was here that he met the love of his life, Shirley.  They married in 1957, and over the next 64 years raised their children Stan, Roger, Cheri, and Neil, and watched over their grandchildren’s activities.

Harry and Shirley moved back to Chester in 1957 where Harry worked for Berg Motors (Chester Motors) for the next 13 years.  In 1971 Harry was hired at the Liberty County Road Department and worked there for the next 25 years, ending his tenure as the road supervisor (1996).  During his spare time, he continued to work at Chester Motors.

Life for Harry included civic duty and hobbies.  Hobbies included restoring antique cars, tossing horseshoes, playing pool, fishing, muzzleloading shoots, woodworking, coin collecting, stamp collecting, building and flying RC model airplanes, hunting, and working with small engines.

Harry also served on many boards and organizations, including Frontier RC Pilots, Saddle Butte RC Club, Building Committee for the Senior Center, Lutheran Church Board, etc. He was also awarded “Liberty County Senior of the Year” in 2007.

Later in life Harry helped drive the senior citizen van and was the “Bingo” caller on Monday nights.  He attended many sporting events, especially his favorite, basketball games.  He consistently “helped” the refs during the game!

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Heimbigner Sr. and Dora Christenot; daughter, Cheri Larson; and infant daughter, Jolene Heimbigner.

Survivors include children, Stan, Roger, and Neil; grandchildren, Brandon, Britney, and Bradley (Roger and Denise), Kayla (Cheri and Rodney), Eli and Annika (Neil and Carla); and two great grandchildren, Gracie Cochell and Delayne Younkin.

Memorial services will be held Friday, June 17, at 11am at Our Savior Lutheran Church.
