Geraldine Hoover

February 28, 1939 — September 2, 2020

Shelby

Geraldine Elizabeth Hoover, 81, of Shelby, passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 2nd, 2020 of natural causes.

Geraldine “Gerry” was born in Tacoma, Washington to Vernon and Opal Miller on February 28th, 1939.  She went to high school at Stadium High and graduated in 1957. She went on to work in Grand Forks, ND for Boeing on the Minuteman Program.  While there she met the love of her life, Marvin. They married 6 months later in a snowstorm on November 20th, 1965 and honeymooned on the farm in Conrad.  They were married for 48 years.

Gerry was a lover of all sports.  She actively played them in school as well as in the community of Snohomish, Washington, where they lived and raised their 2 sons; Randy and Lance.  You could find her and Marvin at every home and away game watching the Snohomish Panthers long after their sons graduated.  After Marvin’s death she moved to Montana to be with her son and his family.  She enjoyed going to her granddaughter’s games and up to a couple weeks before her death she was talking about the upcoming volleyball season.

Gerry is survived by her sister, Marlene (Carl) Barrier; brother, Mike Miller; sons, Randy Hoover of Washington and Lance (Kari) Hoover of Shelby; grandchildren, Carlos (Natalia) Maximiliano Videla (26), Gabriella Hoover (16), Brynn (Kyle) Melton (27), Avery Hoover (18), Emersyn Hoover (15); and great grandchildren, Huntley Melton (5) and twins, Macklan and Knox Melton (2).

Gerry is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Opal; her husband, Marvin Hoover; brother-in-law, Carl Barrier; sister-in-law, Sharron Hoover Minderman; and young nephew, Brent Reichelt.

Gerry was baptized by Pastor Stephanie from St. Luke’s Lutheran Church just a week before her passing.  This brought great peace to her and her family.  The last words Gerry spoke she said “This is the most beautiful place!  Take my hand, Marv, and lead the way.”  The family believe this was her family welcoming her to Heaven, and to experience that with her is a memory they will never forget and always treasure.

Graveside services will be held in the spring or summer of 2021 for both Gerry and her husband, Marvin, at Hillside Cemetery in Conrad.  The family will announce this date at later time.  Pastor Stephanie at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church will be officiating.
