September 17, 1933 — February 1, 2020

Dutton

George L. Kremer, 86, of Dutton, died peacefully on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Beehive Assisted Living in Conrad where he had been a resident since September. He was born along with his twin sister, Ann, September 17,1933 in Cascade, Iowa joining a family of 8 siblings.  He attended school in Iowa and after graduation, he enrolled in the U.S. Army and served in Korea as a combat engineer. Following his discharge, he married Dolores Hodge and together they had 4 children.  After a divorce he worked a number of jobs in highway construction, becoming a master blade operator and worked in construction shops during winter months.  While working on the interstate at Dutton, George was introduced to Marci Cheek whom he married February 29, 1976.  In 1978 he created George's Welding and Repair, and operated the welding and machine shop in Dutton for over 35 years. George learned while working in construction shops, and much more from Ed Chevalier. He taught himself everything else he needed, and there wasn't much he couldn't fix. The custom cutters would save projects for George to complete while they were harvesting in the area.   He was a proud member of the Dutton American Legion post for many years.

George loved the town and the people of Dutton; it quickly became his home.  He worked tirelessly in support of Dutton Fun Day and other community events over many years.  The F-104 military aircraft displayed in front of the Dutton Legion Hall was one of the projects he helped complete, along with utilizing his grading skills on the ice-skating park, the baseball fields, along with many other service projects.

George especially loved the peace and beauty of the mountains and enjoyed many years hunting, fishing, and relaxing at his cabin in Sun River Canyon. He loved to wrangle horses and stock for Sun Canyon Lodge as well as guiding during hunting season or sharing a back-country adventure with his grandchildren.

George's wife, Marci Kremer preceded him in death in December 2017 after 40 years of marriage. Deceased family members are his parents Celsus and Helen Kremer, sister, Mary Johnson, Bob Kremer, Loras Kremer and one brother who died in infancy,

He is survived by his step children, Wanda (Keith) Wagner of Lacombe, Alberta, Gary Cheek of Dutton, Daryl Cheek of Helena; sons, Howard Kremer and Rory Kremer; daughters, Teres Johnstone of Idaho, Katie Woods of Texas, and Maureen Ford of California; his siblings, Ann Noonan of Cedar Rapids, IA, Joseph Kremer of Milwaukee, WI, Chuck Kremer of Devil’s Elbow, MO, John Kremer of Cascade, IA; nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Molly and Jorgen Siebenga, Jacob Wagner, Hannah Wagner.
