Donald Baney, age 72, of Shelby, passed away at home on Thursday, September 2, 2021.

Viewing will be from 5-7 on Friday, September 10 at Asper Funeral Home in Shelby.  Funeral service will be 10:00 am on Saturday, September 11 at St. William’s Catholic Church in Shelby, followed by military honors and committal at Mountain View Cemetery.  Please visit Don’s online memorial and leave a message of condolence for the family at www.asperfh.com.

Don was born in Eureka, Montana, to Hiram and Charlotte Baney on July 9, 1949. His family moved to Glasgow, Montana after both parents passed away. Don Lived with different siblings when his oldest brother moved to Washington. Don lived with Tex and Lois Polk until he finished school in Shelby, Montana. Don joined the Army in 1968. He went to Basic Training in Fort Lewis, Washington then Don went on to Fort, Ord for advance training before he served in Vietnam for three tours. On September 10, 1970 Don was honorably discharged.

Don married Lynn Habets on December 5, 1970. Don and Lynn had two sons, Tim and Trent. Don worked in the oil field; he worked every position on the Rigs from being a tool pusher in Montana to an offshore Rig platform in Alaska. Don worked at Glacier County Road Department until he bought the farm in 1975. After that Don worked for the State of Montana Highway Department until he retired.

Don was a man who would help anyone in need. He was his kids and grandkids number one fan in sports. Showing up early enough to have to turn the lights on in the gym. Don would always say he would rather be an hour early than a minute late. He loved visiting with friends and family. Many who knew Don, knew exactly where they stood. He was a loving father and grandfather who helped his sons with farming and mechanics. Don’s heart was to make sure his family was always safe, happy, and taken care of.

Don is preceded in death by his parents; Hiram and Charlotte, his brothers; Stan (Carol), Harold, Herb, Sisters; Lila (Max), Barb (Howard), Patsy, Foster Parents; Tex (Lois) Polk, and Granddaughter Asha Lynn.

Don is survived by his wife Lynn; sons, Tim (Terri Jo) Baney and Trent (Teresa) Baney; brother, Richard Baney; sisters, Linda, Bert, Lilian, Bev, and Elenore, Grandkids; Mike (Jen) Baney, Alicia (Dennis) Becker, Joshua (Emily) Baney, Damon (Cheyene) Kadie, Devon and Kaely. Great Grandkids; Kegan, Brayden, Layne, Holden, Rowan, Bella, Talon, and Gemma. Foster Mom; Lois Ereth, foster Brothers and Sisters, and numerous Nieces and Nephews.
