April 29, 1930 — September 1, 2022

Shelby

Walter “Walt” Thornton left this world on September 1, 2022 at the Shelby Logan Heathcare Assisted Living to join his beloved wife, Mary Lou, beside their Lord and Savior.

Walt was born April 29, 1930 in Lethbridge, AB to James and Jane “Dolly” Thornton. He spent his growing up years around Cut Bank and after some time in Havre, he settled in Shelby. After a couple of short-term jobs, Walt started working for the US Postal Service, which turned out to be how he met Mary Lou LaFrance. They married June 19, 1965.

Waft and Mary Lou were very involved in the Community Methodist Church as well as other community groups and activities. Walt also spent many hours visiting people, especially in the Shelby nursing home and hospital, and ministry in the prison as well. Walt had many life-long friends, testimony to his friendly nature.

He is survived by children, Julie (Wesley) Hutchinson of Okotoks, AB and Bruce (Christina) Thornton of Shelby; as well as 7 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 29, at 10:00am at Whitted Funeral Chapel Shelby.
