Sharon Wollan passed from this earth to her heavenly home on October 3, 2025 in Laurel,
MT.
Her memorial service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Cut Bank, MT at 10am
on October 11.
Sharon was born on May 31, 1939 in Cut Bank, MT. She was the second daughter of Carl
and Helen Peterson, and Carol’s little sister. She later became an older sister to Estelle
and Linda. She graduated from Cut Bank High School in 1957, and during those high
school years was voted “Most Cheerful,” a title that remained true of her throughout her
life. From those teen years to her final days, her beautiful smile and positive attitude were
the defining traits of her personality. After completion of her nursing degree through
Montana State College, Sharon began working at Glacier County Memorial Hospital. She
later worked as a clinic nurse, and was blessed to care for so many people, doing the
work she loved.
Sharon met her love, Gary Wollan, in Cut Bank, and the two were married on April 14,
1962. Sharon and Gary celebrated 55 years of marriage, and their greatest joy was their
family. Sharon would tell you that she was put on this earth to be a mom, and her four
kids would agree, adding that she was the best mom in the world. Her joy grew when
grandchildren joined the family, and she became the best grandma, too. Sharon and
Gary’s favorite place on earth was Glacier Park. Sharon looked forward to spending time
there with her kids and grandkids every summer, a tradition that has gifted her family
with some of their favorite memories, lots of laughter, a love for the mountains, and a
close bond with one another throughout the years.
Sharon loved living on the farm and made it a haven of hospitality, always ready with
coffee and treats for the farmers and for any visitors who happened to stop by. Her kids’
friends saw her as a second mother, and whenever someone in the community needed
help, Sharon was there to do whatever was needed with a smile. She was a faithful
member of her church and was often helping with church activities. Sharon loved her
town. She was active in several clubs and organizations, celebrated as Cut Bank's Citizen
of the Year, and known as KSEN's "Sports Trivia Queen." She brought the fun
everywhere she went. Sharon loved holidays and celebrations and any other event that
brought her family and friends together. When her kids were grown, she was so excited to
get her passport and begin traveling the world with Gary and with her sisters. Sharon was
known for her smile, her laughter, her humor, her hugs, her sass, and her joy-filled
dancing. Gary passed away in 2017, and in 2020, Sharon moved to a memory care
community in Laurel. While dementia slowly took her memory, it never took her smile,
her sense of humor, or her love for her family. She always loved the people around her
well, gave the best hugs, and would take your hands to invite you to dance with her, to
share in the joy and fun she found in simple moments.
Sharon was preceded in death by her husband Gary and her sister Linda. She is survived
by her four children and their spouses: Mike and Arlene Wollan of Spokane, WA; Nancy
and Brent Scott of Laurel, MT; Jennifer and Tim Shaffer of Chattanooga, TN; Eric and
Jami Wollan of Mountlake Terrace, WA; her grandchildren Tanner (Conner), Jackson
(Carina), Paige, Abbey, Jenna, Brie, Jadan, Ellie, MJ, and Macy; her first great-grandson,
arriving soon; her sisters Carol and Estelle, and many cousins and close friends.
