Robert J. Monroe

Robert “Bob” Monroe, after a long, fulfilling life and short battle with cancer, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at the age of 93.
Bob was born on the family farm Southeast of Valier, MT on February 22, 1929 to Jerome and Maggie (Christiaens) Monroe.
Bob was the oldest of six children. When their father passed away in 1943 he, at the age of 14, kept the farm going with help from many family members and neighbors.

In 1958, Bob along with his brothers Dick and Vern, formed Monroe Brothers partnership raising wheat, barley, hay and cattle. This partnership continues today with the next generation – Don Monroe and Jody Habel.
Bob met his wife Rose Bachmeier at the Valentines Dance in February 1956. They were married November 14 of that same year. They danced their way through 63 years of marriage raising their eight children on the family farm north of Valier.

They retired from farming in 2000 and moved their home to Conrad where he used his love and knowledge of farming to grow a beautiful yard, lovely flowers and a plentiful garden.
Bob is survived by his sons Don (Roxann) Monroe and Duane (Jamie) Monroe; daughters Pam Nadeau; Ruth Davis (Craig Swanson); Julie (Scott) Stevenson; Patty (Bruce) Broesder; Maureen Bryan (Stacy Estey); Kathy (Wade) DeBoo; eight grandsons; 11 granddaughters and 16 great grandchildren; his brother Vern (Myrna) Monroe; sister Alice Garman; brother-in-law Bill Leys; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife Rose in 2020, his parents Jerome and Maggie, his sister Agnes, his brothers Harry Lee and Richard, and brother-in-law Dick Garman.

Vigil services will be Monday, October 10, at 7;00pm. Mass services will be Tuesday, October 11, at 10:00am. All services will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Conrad.
