Richard Glen Kellogg II, known to friends and family as Rick, and affectionately nicknamed “Zip” by many, was born on January 15, 1949, in Conrad, Montana, and passed away on May 22, 2025, at the age of 76 due to complications from lung surgery. He was the beloved husband of Donna Connor, whom he married on September 6, 1969, in Billings, Montana.
A proud Army veteran, Rick served at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, beginning in June 1970. He was also a dedicated athlete, earning four letters as a football player during high school. Rick started his career with the Forest Service and later attended Eastern Montana College, where he met his wife, before eventually transferring to Montana State University in Bozeman and settling down in Conrad.
Rick had a long and fulfilling career with the U.S. Postal Service, where he served as a letter carrier and later as the postmaster in Brady, Montana, until 2012.
Rick was a staple in his community, actively coaching his sons' little league baseball teams and serving as part of the chain gang for the Conrad Cowboys for ten years. A lifelong fan of football, he enjoyed attending Bobcat games with his friend Sandy, and one of the highlights of his life was attending the Packers-49ers game in 2019, where he had front row seats.
In celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary, Rick and Donna took their whole family to Disneyland, creating cherished memories. Rick’s commitment to community service was evident through his memberships in the Masonic Blue Lodge, Royal Arch Masons, Lions Club, Moose Lodge, Tri-County Shriners, and he also served on the board of the Horizon Lodge. He was honored to be the Grand Marshal of the Whoop Up Day Parade in 2023 and enjoyed being part of the “chute gang” for many years.
Rick loved spending time ranching with his son Jim and enjoyed competing with his son Joe for fantasy football. He was always willing to help his neighbors and had a deep appreciation for the Rocky Mountain Front, particularly the Benchmark area. Additionally, he shared a love of horses with his daughter Heather, who is now taking care of his cherished horse, Duke. Rick enjoyed road trips to rodeos with his close friend Glen and was known for being a morning person, so it was not surprising that one of his favorite John Wayne quotes was, “Hurry it up, we’re burning daylight.” He also treasured hunting on the Cobb Ranch, where he bagged a record bull elk.
Rick was preceded in death by his daughter, Kelly; his parents, Rich and Dolores Kellogg; his brother, Mark; his brother-in-law, John Davenport; and his niece, Carri Quinn. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna, of Brady, Montana; daughter, Heather Hill (Scott) of Helena, Montana; son, Jim (Jamie) of Dell, Montana; granddaughters, Haylee and Brooke; son, Joe (Marcia) of Lihue, Hawaii; grandson, Connor; granddaughter, Corinne; brother, Greg (Della); nephews, Mike (Rainey), Matt (Jennifer), Cory (Cassidy) and their children; sister-in-law, Theresa (Kevin & Connor); and sister-in-law, Marla; niece, Kristie (Neal) and their children, Aidan and Keira; Carri’s daughters, Sierra Oehlke and Delaney Quinn. He is also survived by his “adopted” grandkids Sydney, Emily, and Alec.
Rick will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Shriners Hospital.
Services will be Saturday, May 31, at 3:00 pm at CHS Auditorium. A reception in the CHS commons will follow the burial.
