Longtime Shelby resident Mary Jean Wells passed away February 15, 2018. She leaves behind a large loving family, including her husband of 64 years, Jack Wells.
Mary Jean was born April 20, 1931. She was the youngest of nine children in the Hasquet family. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Josephine, and her siblings, Louis, Amparita, Olivia, Margo, Irene, Julius, Robert, and Geraldine.
Mary Jean was a lifelong Shelby resident, graduating from Shelby High School and attending the University of Montana with Jack. They were married on March 1, 1954. They operated a farm and ranch and together owned Wells Drug Store and the Ben Franklin Store on Main Street in Shelby. Mary Jean was a lifetime member of St. Williams Catholic Church in Shelby. She will be greatly missed by her large extended family, friends and members of the community.
Mary Jean is survived by her husband, Jack Wells, and nine children, Cindy (Don) Moen of Lewistown, John Wells of Whidbey Island, WA, Mary Jo (Perry) of Cole, San Diego, CA, Tim (Mary) Wells of Kalispell, Craig Wells of Boise, ID, Nancy Wells of Seattle, WA, Kathy (Frank) Burkhartsmeyer of Portland, OR, Debbie (Damon) Ballantyne of Spokane, WA, and Tom (Carolyn) Wells of Kalispell; 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Rosary and vigil services will be held Friday, February 23, at St. Williams Catholic Church. Visitation will be prior to rosary from 5 to 7pm at the church. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, February 24, at the church at 10:00 AM. A reception and celebration of Mary Jean’s life will be held at the church parish hall following the burial.
Mary Jean’s family would like to extend our thanks to family members, friends and the community she loved and served over her 86 years.
