Marlys G. Robertson

April 26, 1935 — January 25, 2018

Marlys Gail Robertson, 82, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the Shelby Care Center.  A Celebration of Life will take place at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 3, 2018, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Shelby, MT, with reception to follow.

Marlys was born April 26, 1935, in Chicago, IL, to Elmer and Cora Schippel.  The family moved to Shelby in 1951 where Elmer and Cora owned/operated a department, Ben Franklin.  Marlys graduated from Shelby High School in 1953.  Marlys married James “Red” Robertson on August 25, 1961.  Marlys and Red worked and resided in Shelby their entire lives.  Marlys worked for First State Bank and the Shelby School District prior to opening R Cleaners with Red, which they operated for many years prior to retiring.   Marlys enjoyed working part time at the Visitor Center as well as the Comfort Inn.  She loved meeting new people, listening to their stories and sharing a few of her own!  She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Cora Schippel and husband James Robertson.

Marlys was a devout Christian and a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.  Her greatest joys in life were activities with family and friends, visiting, keeping in touch with everything happening in the community as well as everything happening with her family and friends who resided outside of Shelby.  She also enjoyed following Shelby and MSU sporting events.

Survivors include her son, Brian Robertson (Sheila Taylor, ) of Shelby, MT, brother Robert (Eliana) Schippel of Dallas, TX, sister Janice Schippel of Phoenix, AZ, five grandchildren, Tyler Robertson of Seattle WA, Miranda Robertson,  Justin Robertson and Heather Dethmers   of Las Vegas, NV, Whitney (Dylan) Frank of Shelby, MT and four great grandchildren.

Marlys touched so many lives in her “short” 82 years.  Marlys may have been small in stature but she had a giant heart that she shared with everyone.  She will be greatly missed, Mom and Grandma (Gommy) and friend.  We know you will be with us and watching over us always.
