Louis J Roark

October 21, 1931 — February 17, 2013

Louis James Roark, 81, an oil field truck driver, farmer and Navy Veteran from Oilmont, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2013 at the Marias Care Center. Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, February 23rd, at the Whitted Funeral Chapel in Shelby. Burial with military honors will follow in the Sunburst Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Gladys V. Roark of Oilmont; adopted daughter, Teresa (Dan) Kaleva of Shelby; daughter, Colleen (Thom) Bryant of Great Falls; sons, Tim (Jacquie) Roark and Dan (Tina) Roark, both of Oilmont, and Brian (Brenda) Roark, of Sunburst; step-sons, Woody Goodrich of Great Falls and Charles (Sherry) Goodrich of Kevin; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are siblings, Leslie W. (Dena) Roark, Darlene (Jim) Watson and Becky (J.P.) Tracy; sister-in-law, Gayle (Carroll) Klette; and brother-in-law, Jim Sandifer.
He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, LaVerne Roark and Marilyn Sandifer; and a grandson, Justin J. Roark.
Lou was born October 21, 1931 on the family homestead north of Shelby, to Willis and Gladys (Flesch) Roark and grew up in the Oilmont area. He attended Prairie Dell Elementary and graduated from Oilmont High School in 1949. He served four years with the US Navy during the Korean Conflict and then attended one year of college in Missoula after his discharge.
Louis married Gladys Virginia Lawson on January 8, 1959 in Tijuana, Mexico.
Along with farming he worked for Kevin Trucking as an oilfield trucker for many years. He was a member of the Catholic Church and the American Legion.
Lou served as a trustee on the Oilmont school board and put in countless hours as the founder of the Oilmont Water District. He enjoyed farming & gardening.
Lou was a gentle, kind and caring man, as well as a loving husband and father. He was especially fond of all his grandchildren. Small children always brought joy to his heart with their cute antics.
