Lloyd "Whimpy" David Wentworth, a man known for his radiant smile, infectious laugh, and legendary collection of "Whimpy-isms," passed away peacefully in his Shelby, Montana home on March 23, 2026, just one week shy of his 86th birthday.
Born in Valier, Montana, on March 30, 1940, to Connie and William Wentworth, Whimpy grew up alongside his siblings, Don, Bobby, and Gayle. After graduating high school, he headed to Spokane to master the craft of barbering. He eventually returned to his roots, opening his own barbershop in Brady. Whimpy later pivoted to a 33- year career at DeVoe's Builders Service
In Valier, where he raised his three children: Todd, William, and LeAnnette, Wimpy was at his happiest in the rugged Montana wilderness. An avid hunter and fisherman, he spent countless weeks deep in the mountains on horseback, setting up camp in pursuit of "the biggest and the best." Beyond the outdoors, his heart belonged to his family. In 2009, his circle of love grew when he married Lola (Reid) Wentworth, welcoming her children-Arne, Aric, and Amy-as his own. Wimpy was the first to volunteer for any project, always ready to pick up a tool to help his kids build something new or simply create a lasting memory. His catchy sayings remain a staple in the vocabularies of everyone who knew him, ensuring his spirit lives on in every conversation.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lola Wentworth; his sister, Gayle; his children, Todd Wentworth, William "Kim" Wentworth, and LeAnnette (Wentworth) Presciti; stepchildren, Arne Hammer, Aric Hammer, and Amy (Hammer) Freel; and a legacy of many beloved grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Connie and William, and his brothers, Don and Bobby.
A Celebration of Life hosted by Lola and the family will be held on June 6th at the Comfort Inn in Shelby, MT, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Following the service, the family invites friends to share stories and a toast at The Tap Room from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
