Leonard Albert Armstrong, 89, of Conrad, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at Benefis Hospital with family present.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 23, at 10 a.m. at the Pondera Valley Lutheran Church in Conrad. Interment of his ashes with Military Honors will follow in Hillside Cemetery.

Leonard was born to Noble and Florence (England) Armstrong in Collins, Montana, on October 27, 1930, the eldest of six children. He attended and graduated from school in Conrad.  Following graduation, he entered the Army and served in the Korean War. After returning to Conrad, Leonard met his future wife, Marie Olsen, who was teaching in Conrad. They were married June 8, 1958 at Ronan English Lutheran Church. Together they raised 3 children and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2018.

Leonard was a lifelong member of Pondera Valley Lutheran Church. During his life he had many careers. He enjoyed working for local farmers and ranchers, and then worked at Fleet Supply in Conrad until his retirement in 1992.

Leonard loved fishing, hunting, and gardening. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also took great pride in his cooking and canning accomplishments entering them in the Marias Fair for many years after he retired.

Leonard is survived by three children; daughters, Elodie (Ryan) Rauscher, Elaine (Kevin) Mitchell, and son, Paul (Michelle) Armstrong; eight grandchildren, Chance (Katie), Kristina, and Benjamin Rauscher, Jennifer (Carl) Flesch, Kaylee (Roy) Benjamin, Larry, Melissa, and Timothy Armstrong; seven great-grandchildren Paxton, Samuel, Laura and Annie Flesch, Joe, Charles and Gretta Benjamin; his sisters, Pat (Jason) Giard, Marcella Rodriquez; sister-in-law, Yvonne Armstrong; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marie; infant son; his father and mother; brothers, Darwin and Walter; sister, Maxine; brothers-in-law, Henry Rodriquez and Frank Schlosser; and sister-in-law, Mary Jean Armstrong.
