Kenneth E Leck

August 26, 1921 — January 5, 2012

Kenneth Edwin Leck, 90, a long time Galata area farmer from Great Falls, passed away from natural causes on Thursday, January 5, 2012, at the Benefis Extended Care Center. Visitation is Sunday at the Whitted Funeral Chapel, where funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday with burial to follow in the Mountain View Cemetery. A lunch will follow at the Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

Kenny was born August 26, 1921 at Reardon, WA to Charles & Hattie Mae (Snider) Leck. He grew up in Galata where he graduated Salutatorian of his Senior Class. He married Jean Appley on June 29, 1942 at Shelby.

Kenny did heavy equipment construction work for several years. He and Bill McCarter built many of the farm dams along the high line. He also did a major part of the dirt work in the building of the runways at Malstrom Air Force Base.

He farmed north of Galata for more than 40 years before retiring in 1980. They then moved permanently to their summer home in the Flathead Valley, where some of his most memorable times were spent when his children and grandchildren came to visit. Kenny and Jean have lived in Great Falls for the past 2 years.

He was the past Master of the Galata Masonic Lodge, member of the Knights Templar, Algeria Shrine and the Elks Lodge. He had served on both the Galata and Shelby School Boards. Kenny enjoyed traveling, boating, barbecuing, playing cards, and animals.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Jean Leck of Great Falls; daughter, Mariann (John) McArthur of Spartanburg, SC; sons, David (Shirley) Leck and Steve (Helen) Leck, both of Galata; brothers, James Leroy (Trudy) Leck of Seattle, WA and Dennis William Leck of Shelby; seven grandchildren, Dan (Lisa) Leck of Shelby, Laura (John) Steinhoff of Helena, Travis (Nikki) Leck of Arvada, CO, Andrew Leck of Galata, Kristin McArthur of Columbia, SC, Meghan McArthur and Kayla McArthur both of Spartanburg, SC; as well as five great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles Leck.
