Joan (Cornell) Walston

Joan Cornell Walston, 82, of Conrad, MT returned to her Heavenly Father on August 10th, 2023. She was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming on May 10, 1941 to Charles and Geneve Cornell, the oldest of 10 children. They lived in Laramie, Wyoming before moving to Utah where they lived in Santaquin, Spanish Fork, American Fork.  She graduated from high school in 1959 and then moved to Salt Lake City to work at the LDS hospital in medical records. While there she met the love of her life, LaVon Walston. They married on June 16, 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple.

After their wedding, they moved to Conrad, Montana to live and work on the family farm. Joan loved farm life, especially all the animals. To this union were born 3 children: Scott, Bryan, and Debbie. She was an excellent cook and loved being involved in her children’s lives, spending time as a den mother for cub scouts and a 4-H leader. After her children left home, she returned to work at the hospital as a medical transcriptionist and then a pharmacy tech, of which she was especially proud. She retired from working after 25 years of service.

She and LaVon loved to travel, taking many trips to Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Sweden. They were married for 62 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lasca; and grandson, Isaiah. She is survived by her husband, LaVon; children, Scott (Debbie), Bryan (Shannon), and Debbie (Jay); grandchildren, Bryce, Jeremy, Nate, Tayla, Eli, Cole, Kasi, Kali, Krissi, Clay, DJ, Deidre, and Darin; and 12 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 14, from 5-7pm at Asper/Pondera Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Tuesday, August 15, at 11am at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
