Jim A. Greer

February 7, 1930 — May 11, 2018

James Andrew “Jim” Greer entered the world on February 7, 1930 and left us on May 11, 2018, to join his wife at their special campsite in Heaven.  He was raised on the family homestead in Simms by his dad and mom, John and Mary Grace (Tallman) Greer, along with his brothers; John, George, and Ray and sisters; Mary and Emma Jean.  During this time his love of animals was born.  He has always enjoyed talking about his horses and dogs; Jack, Joke, Spike(s), and Spot to mention a few; they were so special to him.

Jim also enjoyed football, FFA, band, watching his future wife play basketball, Grandchildren, coaching youth sports, camping, hunting, community involvement, playing cards, and going dancing with the Wood’s and the Gebhardt’s.

A few of Jim’s favorite accomplishments were; during his senior year he was hand selected by band directors (nationwide) to play his baritone at the First National FFA Convention in Kansas City, 40 plus years on the Volunteer Fire Department, and being very active in the Methodist Church.

Above all Jim loved to spend time with the love of his life.  Jim met Kathryn Alice “Kay” Knox the first day of 8th grade.  She was the cute new 7th grade girl that he knew he would have as his girl.  After Jim’s graduation in 1948, he patiently waited a year for Kay to graduate in May and they were married on June 1, 1949.  Jim and Kay were blessed with 5 children; daughters, Bobbie Kay (Barry) Bevars, Sharon Marie Greer, Jaynie Rae (Rich) Gollehon, and Kathy Jo (Jayson) Gottlob, and son, James Mason (Kelly) Greer.

Married life started on the family homestead in Simms, then on down to San Diego, where Jim worked alongside his brother, Ray, learning the skills of carpentry.  After 3 years they returned to Simms where Jim continued his carpentry skills.  At the age of 55 Jim went to work for the Fort Shaw Irrigation District.  In 2003 they moved to Conrad where they shared their retired life together.

Jim was last of his immediate family and has been ready and anxious to join Kay in eternity.  We have been thankful for his ability and knowledge to fix almost anything, his competitiveness for games, his sense of humor, and his caring, fun-loving nature.

Jim is welcomed home by his wife, Kay; his parents; brothers and sisters; and numerous friends.  His life on earth continues through his 5 children and spouses; 8 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Duane (Elaine); numerous nieces and nephews; and the Ruben and Dot Gebhardt family.

Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Community Cancer Foundation, PO Box 743, Conrad, MT 59425; the Simms Methodist Church, PO Box 208, Simms, MT 59477; or any charity of donor’s choice.

Memorial services will be on Friday, June 1, at 11:00 AM at Pondera Funeral Home with a luncheon to follow at the Conrad Moose Lodge.  Burial for both Jim and Kay together will take place the same afternoon between 3 and 4 pm in Sun River Cemetery in Sun River.
