Jerry “Pete” Peters Sr. passed away peacefully on Feb 2, 2024 surrounded by family.
Jerry was born in Conrad on August 18, 1943 and always called Olga Connor, mom and Dupuyer, home. After graduating Valier High School, he went to work on oil rigs in Wyoming. Jerry joined the Army in early 1965 and did his first tour in Vietnam as a radio repair man. After leaving the Army he reenlisted to the Navy where he served his second Vietnam tour on an aircraft carrier. While in the service he received many commendations including sharpshooter and a heroism award.
He married Barbara Davis on Feb 15, 1969 in Chula Vista, CA. After Vietnam Pete and Barb moved back to Dupuyer to work on a local ranch. In July of 1971 they welcomed their only child Jerry Jr. Pete started his trucking career in July of 73. He worked as a driver and owned his own trucks until his retirement in Aug of 2021. Jerry drove millions of safe miles passing his knowledge on to many drivers along the way.
After retiring he enjoyed life around the house spending hours telling stories to all who would listen. He loved helping Jerry with the horses and spending time with family, sometimes even playing cards.
Jerry’s life came to a close suddenly with a stage 4 lung cancer which never got to the treatment phase as the cancer invaded his heart. In the last 10 days Jerry got a chance to tell those he loved goodbye with hours of stories. Many tears, hugs and laughter were had by all. In his last week Jerry got baptized, First Holy Communion and confirmed. Everyone he met after he would tell “I got baptized!”
Jerry is survived by wife, Barb; son, Jerry (Terri); grandson, Douglas (Abbie); grandson, Connor (Mariah); great-grandsons, Weston and Jackson Jerry; sister, Jackie (Dan) Weist; brother, Jim (Lois) Peters; brother-in-law, Russell Davis and Mary Bartkoske
He was preceded in death by mother, Olga Connor and brothers, Doug and Monty Unger
His service will be at St Michaels Catholic church February 24th, 10 AM with reception to follow. Memorials can be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
