Jean McCarter

April 24, 1923 — March 19, 2018

Virginia Jean McCarter, 94, of Shelby, passed away on March 20, 2018.

The funeral service will be held at 2pm, Friday, March 23 at Community United Methodist Church, 413 2nd Street South, Shelby. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Asper Funeral Chapel.

Jean was born in Bridger, Montana on April 24, 1923.  She graduated from Shelby High School. In 1942 Jean lived in Seattle, WA where she worked as a tele-typist for Boeing during World War II.  There she was re-acquainted with and married her childhood friend, John Miles McCarter, on November 7, 1943. Jean and John moved to Galata, MT where they began their life of farming.  Jean and John farmed in the Galata, Devon and Dunkirk areas for the remainder of their lives.

Jean worked as a farm wife and enjoyed gardening and caring for her family.  She was also actively involved in Eastern Star, Daughter of the Nile and belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary.

Jean is survived by her 3 children, Stan McCarter (Sharon), Bonnie Robertson (Ralph), and Chuck McCarter, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.

Jean is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, John Miles McCarter and her grandchildren, Robert McCarter, Scott Robertson, and John B. McCarter.

The family of Jean McCarter wishes to thank Dr. Robert Clary and the nurses and staff for their wonderful care at Northern Rockies Medical Center, Cut Bank, MT.
