Jack A. Linquist was born June 1st, 1931, to Ernest Linquist and Lillian (Lena) Brayko Linquist. Jack was one of five kids born into this union. He grew up in Scobey MT, where he graduated from Scobey High School in 1949.
After a couple of years working on a local ranch, he was recruited into the Air Force on February 5th, 1952. On the 25th of March 1952, he arrived for basic training at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas. From there he went to aircraft maintenance school at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois. After the completion of that schooling, he was stationed at Pinecastle Air Force Base in Florida. During his time in the Air Force, he was stationed overseas in England with stops in Germany and Africa. On February 4, 1956, Jack was honorably discharged from the Air Force.
He bought a car and headed home to Scobey. Once back home Jack began a career in road construction/heavy equipment operation. He worked for a couple of counties before joining a union and working full-time on road construction. This career took him all over the state and in 1966 he ended up in Valier where he met Iva (Tootie) Orr. Iva had a son from a previous marriage and Jack was immediately drawn to them. Jack and Tootie, as all her friends and family called her, were married on March 8th, 1967, in Conrad. To this union, one child was born. Mike was born July 12th, 1971.
Jack worked on the Tiber Dam in the early 70s. In the 80s Jack and Tootie moved out to the farm between Valier and Dupuyer and raised a garden, tended chickens, and had coffee every morning with June. Jack was famous for leaving a dozen eggs or a sack of potatoes in people’s cars in Valier. During this time, they took care of Ted (Tootie’s dad). After Ted passed Tootie had medical issues for several years and passed because of them in 2007. Jack stayed on the farm alone for a while before moving to Choteau to live with Mike and his family. He resided with them until the day before his passing.
Jack was preceded in death by all four siblings, his parents, his wife of 40 years, and his stepson. He is survived by his son, Mike and daughter-in-law Aryn, their three children, Hope (Dallas), Logan, Keton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
