Ivan Eugene Schilling, 76, of Shelby, died at his home, June 19, 2012 due to cancer. A celebration of his life is planned for a later date. Whitted Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be sent to www.whittedfuneralchapel.com
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Myra; sons, Mark (Laura) of Las Vegas NV, Craig (Stormy) of Bellingham, WA, Kurt of Long Beach, CA; daughter-in-law, Kim Kingston of Whitehall, MT; 20 grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by a son, Brian; brothers, Ed, Bud, and Leroy; and sisters, Eva Leuchars and Nellie Mauseth.
Gene was born March 9, 1936 in Terry, MT to Jacob and Katherine (Stepper) Schilling, the youngest of seven children. The family moved to the Fairfield area when he was one year old. "TOOTS" graduated from Fairfield High School in 1954 and was a member of Fairfield's first State Champion Basketball team. Gene graduated from Montana State University in 1960 with a degree in education and played football for the CATS. Gene taught school, coached football, basketball and track for three years at Fairfield before moving to Shelby in 1964 where he taught and coached all sports before retiring in 1995 after 31 years in Shelby.
