Gladys Eileen (Hemry) Hjartarson passed away peacefully in her sleep October 16, 2022. One week after her 97th birthday.

She was born to Ralph and Esther Hemry on October 9, 1925, she joined sister, Irma, and brother, Harold, on the farm east of Brady. She attended school in Brady graduating high school in 1943. She went on to receive her teaching certification from Great Falls College of Education on June 22, 1945.

Gladys first teaching job was at Ethridge, Montana where she met Steinthor “Stan” Hjartarson. They were married in Cut Bank on January 1, 1947. In 1948 they purchased a farm north Cut Bank. During this time, they welcomed sons, Raymond in 1949 and Willard in 1953. In 1979 they retired and moved to Cut Bank.

After the passing of her husband in 1981, Gladys worked part time at the Glacier Country Library until she retired in her early 80s. During this time, she enjoyed traveling with friends by bus or car. She also enjoyed vacations to Europe and Hawaii with family members. She loved a good game of bridge or a chance to dance.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Stan; son, Raymond; and granddaughter, Tami.

She is survived by son, Willard (Nancy) Hjartarson of Cut Bank; granddaughter, Heather (Ryan) Ellis of Lynwood, Washington; grandsons, Jason Hjartarson of Peculiar, Missouri, Steven (Bess) Hjartarson of Cut Bank, and Mike Ellis of Hillsboro, Oregon; great granddaughters, Emily and Ashley Ellis; and great-grandsons, Jacob and Bradley Hjartarson and Gavin and Preston Ellis.

A family burial has taken place with a celebration of life to be scheduled at later date.
