Gary Fred Stroh, 77, of Conrad, Montana, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 10th, 2026, after suffering a heart attack.
Gary was born in Seattle, Washington, and raised in Cowlitz County, with years spent in Longview, Sequim, and Castle Rock. He graduated from R.A. Long High School in Longview around 1967. He spent much of his professional career welding and installing basketball backstops, and his work took him all over the Northwest to schools, athletic clubs, and even sports arenas. Before moving to Montana, he worked as a general building maintenance supervisor at a local school near Castle Rock.
Gary lived most of his life in the Pacific Northwest. Around 2015, he moved to Conrad, Montana, to care for his aging parents, and he made Montana his home from then on.
A longtime hippie at heart, Gary loved freedom and the great outdoors. Give him a cold beer, a plate of Mexican food, and a little blues or bluegrass on his stereo, and he was a happy man. He was also an avid golfer and a devoted fan of professional basketball.
Gary was known for his sharp wit and dry sense of humor. When reflecting on life, he would often say, "Ain't nobody getting out of this alive." He met life with honesty and a good laugh, and he will be dearly missed.
Gary is survived by his three children and loving grandchildren. He was loved very much by all of them, and they will carry his memory, and his humor, with them always.
