Fay Eileen Martin (Horton), age 90, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025, in Shelby, Montana.
Born on March 30, 1935, in Vauxhall, Alberta, Canada, Fay was the daughter of Jack and Marguerite Horton. She pursued her education in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she graduated as a Lab Technician. Her professional journey began in Shelby, Montana—a place that would become both her home and the setting for many of life’s most meaningful chapters. It was there that she met her husband, Max G. Martin.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister, Fay's greatest joy came from her family. She is survived by her three children: Michelle Edwards; Marla Hasquet and her husband John; and Michael Max Martin and his wife Julie—all of Shelby. Her legacy continues through her six grandchildren: Alyssa Edwards of Shelby; Angie McCarthy and her husband Quinn of Butte; Megan Casey and her husband Joe of Anaconda; Kelly Jo Hasquet of Butte; Bridger Martin and his fiancé' Mila of Salt Lake City; and Skyler Martin of Great Falls. Fay was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: Bridget, Mack, and Rory McCarthy of Butte; and Josie, Cian, and Nita Fay Casey of Anaconda. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Fay was preceded in death by her beloved husband Max G. Martin; two grandsons, Bryan and Tyler Edwards; her parents Jack and Marguerite Horton; her sister Shirley Bryant; and brother Gale Bryan Horton and a son-in-law, Danny Murphy.
Fay loved to sew, quilt, craft and have tea with her friends and visits with her sister Shirley. Fay thoroughly enjoyed going for walks, especially with her dogs. She spent time sewing beds for animals at the Prairie Oasis Animal Shelter. She was a talented sewer with a passion for quilting, Fay found joy in creating beautiful pieces that reflected both skill and love. She was a member of the Triangle Squares Quilt Guild and participated for many years in the block of the month. Above all else, she cherished time spent following the lives and accomplishments of her grandchildren—her favorite pastime by far.
A Funeral Service will be held on August 11, 2025, at 1:00 PM at United Methodist Church in Shelby. A luncheon will be served afterwards.
