Evelyn Carlson Leggett was born November 22 in the year of 1924 in a log cabin that still stands on the highline near Ballantine, Montana. She was born of Swedish homesteader parents. She was the only survivor of their 6 children. She grew up on the farm at Worden and attended Huntley Project Schools where she graduated in 1943. She also worked many years part time at the Watson Grocery in Worden and took in ironings for several families. Due to ill health she moved to Shelby to a retirement apartment at the Marias Heritage Center in 2005 where she was close to her daughter Bonnie.

Evelyn is survived by two daughters, Joanie (Dale) Abbott of Ashland, MT and Bonnie (John) Wiegand of Shelby, MT; sister-in-law Ellen Carlson; 5 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
