Eugene “Gene” Richard Brandt, 95, passed on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Gene was born December 10, 1930 in Rudyard to Louis and Laura (Krueger) Brandt. He was one of 10 children and was lovingly known by his family as “Boyk”. Gene attended school in Rudyard and graduated from Rudyard High School in 1949.
Gene worked as a meat cutter all his life! In high school he worked at Sanvik & Sons in Rudyard and after graduating he worked in Havre at Price Rite cutting meat for 10 years. Gene moved to California with his mother and sister, Cora, and continued his work at Hughes Market. He stayed at Hughes for 16 years until moving to Oxnard, CA, where he finished his career with 8 years cutting meat at Albertsons. Gene retired in 1987. He was a member of the Meatcutter’s Union.
In 1988 Gene moved to Grass Valley, CA but eventually moved back to Montana in 1996 where he settled at the Sweetgrass Lodge. In 1999 he met Olga Mattson at the lodge, and they became very good friends and companions.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl Brandt; his parents; brothers, Harold, Edwin, Elmer, and George; sisters, Eunice, Lauretta, Ruth, Cora, and Lydia.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be Tuesday, June 2, at 10:00 am at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Chester.
