Earl J. Armstrong

Earl. J. Armstrong, 85, a longtime employee of the National Park Service, died Monday at Northern Rockies Medical Center in Cut Bank of natural causes. Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Ed Kohler as celebrant; burial will follow at the Fisher Family Cemetery at St. Mary’s. A wake and vigil is in progress at the family home in Babb with rosary following at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening.
Earl was born at Billings on July 31, 1926 and was raised and educated at Havre. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944, serving during World War II as a sergeant in the 5th Signal Corps in the European Theater. Following his honorable discharge in 1946, he returned to Montana, marrying Annette Kennerly March 11, 1949 at Havre. They resided in the Babb and St. Mary’s area where he had been an employee of the National Park Service in Glacier National Park for over 40 years, retiring in 1987.
Earl was an outdoorsman where he hunted, fished, trapped and cut wood but his greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife in April of this year and 2 sons, Dale and Darrel.
He is survived by sons Earl Armstrong, Jr. and David Armstrong, and a daughter, Leeann Fox, all of Babb; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
