DuWayne F Steiner

DuWayne F Steiner passed away July 20 at Logan Nursing Home in Conrad, following a long illness. He was born April 14, 1927, in Eden South Dakota, the son of Frank and Katherine [Vogel] Steiner.

He was the middle child of 11 children, 8 of them boys. He graduated from Sisseton High School, and did carpentry work locally, before moving to Montana and becoming a telegrapher for the GNRY, for 6yrs. After serving 2 yrs. in communications with the US Army in Bremerhaven Germany during the Korean conflict, he returned to Montana and transferred to GN Stages [the trucking line for GNRY] to continue his career of 31 yrs. on the railroad.

In 1976 he met his future wife, Pamela Harvey; they married in 1982. DuWayne belonged to the Elks Club in Billings Mt, the American Legion, the VFW, and the Depot Society of Conrad.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Coletta, Lorraine, and Ruth, and brothers Norbert, LaVern, Daniel, Alvin and Fred. Surviving in addition to his wife Pamela [ Harvey] Steiner, is his son James W Steiner (Suzette) of Scottsdale AZ, daughter Judy Steiner of Olympia WA, and stepdaughter Michelle Lenker [Michael] of Lacey WA. Three grandchildren, Brandon Steiner of Scottsdale AZ, Ashley Iwaniki [Michael] of Scottsdale AZ, and Chandra Steiner of Parker Colorado. Four step-grandchildren, Michael Kujath Billings Mt, Megan Kujath Monmouth Oregon, Matthew Lenker of Denver CO (great-grandchild Melody), Marcus Lenker of Lacey WA, and many nieces and nephews.

DuWayne enjoyed woodworking: making post office door piggybanks, Cribbage boards, single and double rocking horses, rocking cradles, and even a rocking cow, all of which he donated to friends and family. He loved fishing, playing cribbage, camping, and hunting, especially with the grandchildren, and he lived life on his own terms.

A graveside service will be held at the cemetery in Conrad, MT, on August 26 at 10 am. No flowers, please. A reception will follow at the St. Michael's Catholic Church Parish Hall.

Gifts may be made in his memory to the Conrad Depot, the local Cancer Society, or your favorite charity.
