Our beautiful mother, Ethel Colleen (Hatton) Weaver, 89, of Cut Bank passed away peacefully the morning of Monday, March 5th, 2018 of natural causes, surrounded by her family.
She was born July 26th, 1928 in Kanosh, Utah to Lynn and Della Hatton. She was the oldest of seven children. She grew up and attended schools in Kalispell, where she met and married our dad, Donald Weaver Sr. They moved from the trees of Kalispell to the plains of Cut Bank and there they raised us four boys.
Dad first got a job with Duane Sammons and later with Ernie Anderson at Anderson Implement where he worked up through the business to eventually own it. Mom was busy at home raising four rambunctious boys, which was more than a fulltime job. Colleen loved to cook for her family. She was the cook for many family harvest crews, and although she never sat around the campfire of all the hunting and camping trips, her food was enjoyed by all. She would prepare food for the trips and send it along. And no matter what time of night the tired hungry hunters returned she would have a hot meal waiting.
After devoting 18 years to shuttling ball players and cooking, cleaning, and taking care of her family, Colleen was finally able to find some time to enjoy hobbies of her own. She started bowling, playing in two different leagues for 42 years. She was very proud of all the bowling pins she was awarded. She attended many state bowling tournaments around Montana. At age 52 she picked up her first set of golf clubs and for many years to come she became a permanent fixture at the Cut Bank County Golf Club. It wasn’t uncommon when checking with mom at the end of a summer day to find out she had completed 36 holes of golf.
Dad and mom were involved in the horse racing business for many years and Colleen liked to make small wagers at the track. Her criteria for selecting the right horse to bet on, might have come from the color of the jockey’s shirt to the color of the horse. When asked why she liked to bet on ” greys”, even when the betting program showed no wins for that horse, she would respond “ Well you know what they say about “greys”,,,,,they either run or they don’t!!!!”
Mom was preceded in death by her parents and husband, one sister (Renee), one daughter-in-law (Bonnie), and grandsons Greg King and Danny Weaver. She is survived by her brother (Dick) and sisters (Kay, GayLynn, Patty, Cindi), sons Donnie (Bonnie), Lynn (Gloria), Randy (Rhonda), Hank (Rhonda), and 15 grandkids, 19 great grand kids AND,,,3 great great grandkids and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom’s last years were spent at the Glacier Care Center in Cut Bank. We would like to thank all the wonderful staff, from the cooks to the doctors for the special care that mom received while she was a resident there.
