Chester Knab

Chester P. Knab, 101, passed away Sunday, June 8th, 2025 at the Logan Health Long Term Care

Facility in Conrad, Montana.

Chet was born on January 7th, 1924 in the Township of Halsey, Wisconsin and raised on the family

dairy farm. After graduating from high school in Athens, Wisconsin in 1941, he joined the United

States Marine Corp in November of 1942 and served in the south pacific during World War I I. After

being discharged in October, 1945, he returned home to work on the family farm. In September of

1947 he married Ardell Hopperdietzel in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1954, Chet and a friend traveled

to Montana where they found employment as laborers during the construction of Tiber Dam. In 1956,

he went to work for Newhouse Grain Corp. in Galata, Montana and became the manager a short

time thereafter. In 1964, Newhouse Grain Corp was purchased by Greeley Grain Co. and Chet was

transferred to Joplin, Montana. Because of buyouts and mergers, Chet worked for several different

grain companies over the years and retired after 30 years in the grain business from ConAgra Inc. in

Carter, Montana in 1986.

Growing up and in his younger years, Chet enjoyed hunting and fishing. In retirement Chet and

Ardell could usually be found on the golf course or playing cards with family and friends.

Survivors include children, Mark Knab, Karen (Richard) Anderson, Linda (Sidney) Bartell, Faith (John)

Violett and grandchildren, Abigail Knab, Sarah Knab, Carrie Anderson, Cole Anderson, Jamie Cory,

Rachel Pavalonnis, Stephen O'Donnell, Martin Alley, Michael Alley and Michelle Taubenburger.

Chet was preceded in death by his wife, Ardell; parents, Martin and Anna Knab; and siblings, Fran Lendrum, Kasper Knab, and Martin Knab.

Funeral services will be at Bethel Lutheran in Joplin, Montana at IO:OO am on July 12th, 2025.
