Caroline McLeod was born on November 8, 1938 and passed on to her savior on September 16, 2018 after a long illness.
Caroline was born in Dunkirk to George and Alice Seymour. She lived on the family property with her 4 brothers and 2 sisters north of Dunkirk and attended grade school at the Fairview Country School. At the age of 13, Caroline was moved into Shelby, and resided at the Cavitt Apartments to attend high school, where she graduated in 1956. She met and married James F McLeod, “A great Guy” in 1958, they had their first child in 1959 and four other children soon followed. Caroline and Jim lived in Cut Bank until 1960 and then moved to Shelby together until 1986 when James passed away.
Caroline worked for Marias Nursing Home as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant retiring as a Rehab Aide in 1985. She then worked for 10 years for the Conrad Care Center until 1995. In 2012, she retired for good, from the Cut Bank Care Center.
She spent the better part of 50 years caring for others, while raising her family of 5 children, 21 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. Caroline always had the ability to make sure each child and grandchild felt as if they were the most important thing in her life at that time. Her self-sufficient spirt and never give up attitude gave a sense of independence to all the lives she touched.
Caroline was always happy that the good Lord found the time to give her the great family that he had blessed her with. Believing that no matter how little she had, so long as her family had a warm place to sleep, clothes on their back and food in their belly she truly had all she needed.
Caroline Was preceded in death by James McLeod, her husband of 28 years; her sisters, Esther, Margaret and Elenore; brothers, John, Thomas, and Steven. She is survived by her brothers, James (Lisa) Seymour and Norman (Dorothy) Seymour; sister, Nina (John) Waller; her three sons, James McLeod (Karla), David (Doniella) McLeod and Paul (Barbara) McLeod; 2 daughters, Dawn (Tim Bykonen) Seifert and Anna (Lester) Beach; 21 grandchildren, 44 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
We will be celebrating her life on Thursday the 20th of September at 2:00 PM in the First Baptist Church of Shelby. The Celebration of Life will be followed by a grave side at Valley View Cemetery in Shelby. A reception will follow at the Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church of Shelby.
“The grass may grow, but not under my feet and with God’s help I’ll keep living until I die and not ever have to ever just be here.” Caroline McLoed
