Carol Jean Guith

December 6, 1954 — January 8, 2012

On December 6, 1954 a most wonderful person was born into this world in Cut Bank, MT, Carol Jean Miller. She was the youngest of four children born to Chester Glenn and Mary Ellen (Creech) Miller. She grew up and went to school in Cut Bank until she was 17 years old when she married Mike Burns. Together they moved to Kalispell where she graduated high school. Mike decided to go to mortuary school and they moved to San Francisco for about a year. There she worked as an assistant at a veterinary clinic, which was very appropriate given her love for animals. After Mike completed school, they moved back to Cut Bank. She helped Mike with funerals for several years. In December 1976 they had their first child Danelle Burns. In December 1977 they had their second child Rodney Burns. In 1986 she started working at Norman’s Western Wear. In 1990, Carol and Mike divorced. Carol met Bert Guith and the two got married in 1995 and moved to the ranch. In June of 2006 Carol started working at the Parkview Senior Center and loved working with the seniors and what she did there. She was valued greatly there and was dearly missed when she was hospitalized. Even up to the very end, she wanted to go back to work because of how much she loved her job and the people there.
Bert had a daughter, Erin, who lived with them until she graduated from high school, then went to college, got married to Bryan Cartwright, and had two children, Aliyah and Bryce. Carol enjoyed her grandchildren tremendously. She always loved children but it was very special to have her own grandchildren. She spoiled them every chance she got. Her other loves were her family and her animals (horses, cats, and dogs). She enjoyed riding horses and was a saddle club member for many years. She enjoyed riding in O-MOK-SEES, trail rides, horse clinics, and just pleasure riding in the fields around Cut Bank. She also loved to dance, jitterbug in particular. Carol was always very helpful and did what she could to help her children and family. She was wonderful about caring for animals when her children or other family were out of town. She also enjoyed camping, especially over the 4th of July at the Guith family cabin where there was almost always at least one rafting adventure. Also, drives up to the mountains were enjoyable for her; she always wanted to see the wildlife in Glacier Park, especially bears. After being diagnosed with lung cancer, she and Bert made a couple special trips to do things neither of them had ever done before. First, they went to a profession football game in Denver, CO where the Broncos played the Texans. Second, they went to Honolulu, Hawaii and had the time of their lives. Friends and family helped make both of those trips possible, and both of them were forever grateful. Bert and Carol were happily married until Carol went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 8, 2012. She passed peacefully at Benefis in Great Falls, MT after battling cancer for over a year.
Carol was preceeded in death by her parents Glenn and Mary Ellen Miller. She is survived by her husband Bert Guith, stepdaughter Erin (Bryan) Cartwright of Ft Benton, MT; daughter Danelle Burns of Cut Bank, MT; son Rodney Burns of Cut Bank, MT; brothers Glenn (Myrnnette) Miller of Plentywood, MT; Robert (Lita) Miller of Pasco, WA; sister Verena (Chuck) Farrell of Cut Bank, MT; grandchildren Aliyah and Bryce Cartwright of Ft Benton, MT; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held Saturday January 14, 2012 at the Cut Bank High School Auditorium at 2:00pm followed by burial in the Crown Hill Cemetery. A reception for family and friends will follow in the high school lobby. Whitted Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. There will a public viewing on Friday January 13, 2012 at the funeral chapel from 9 am to 8pm in Cut Bank. Memorials may be sent for Carol to her benefit fund at Bank of Glacier County, Cut Bank or to any charity of your choice.
