Emile H. Habets

January 6, 1926 ~ February 8, 2018 (age 92)

  Emile Herbert Habets, 92, passed away February8, 2018.

  Visitation will be Wednesday, February 14, from 5 to 7pm at the Whitted Funeral Chapel followed by a vigil service at 7pm at the funeral home. Funeral mass will be Thursday, February 15, at 10:00 AM at St. Williams Catholic Church. Burial with military honors in Mountain View Cemetery followed by a reception in the parish hall.

   Emile was born January 6, 1926 in Conrad to Peter and Mary Habets.  At the age of 11, he worked on the family farm.  On April 24, 1944, Emile was drafted into the US Army at the age of 18.  During World War II he served with the 87th Mountain Infantry Regiment as a runner who relayed messages at night from one company to another.  Emile was honorably discharged on April 14, 1946.

  He married Charlette McIlhargey on October 11, 1946 in Conrad. They moved to the family farm and had two children.  Emile farmed for 63 years.  He enjoyed farming, family time, playing cards and games, puzzles, quilting, and woodworking. Emile loved auction sales, fishing, hunting, and yard work.  He filmed bridges and nature. Emile loved being outdoors and going to the mountains with his family.  He bowled on a bowling team with his brother for many years and was a member of the St. Williams Catholic Church in Shelby and St. Francis Parish in Valier.

  Survivors include his children, Glen (Corliss) Habets and Lynn (Don) Baney;

Brother, Gerald Habets; and sister, Lou Widhalm; grandchildren, Rob (Kat) Habets, Carla (Danon) Smith, Steve (Janice) Habets, Teri (Pete) Seymour, Riki (J.T.) Nice, Tim (Terri Jo) Baney, Trent (Teresa) Baney and Jackie Habets; great grandchildren, Michael, Alicia (Dennis), Joshua (Emily), Damon, Kadie, Devon, and Kaely Baney, Samantha and Joshua Habets, Kodi, Brake, and Cambree Smith, Austin Habets, Derrica, Cameron, and Zander Seymour; and Cole Johnson;  great great grandchildren, Kegan, Holden, and Talon Baney, Brayden and  Layne Becker; and Bella Baney.

 He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlette; parents; 19 siblings; and a great grandchild, Asha Lynn.

  Memorials can be made to St. Williams Catholic Church in Shelby.
